PMHNP Certificate Curriculum

The curriculum progresses from psychopharmacology and psychopathology into advanced psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, medication management, and supervised clinical practice. Students complete the program over three semesters while preparing for PMHNP certification.

Required courses include the following:

NU 641 – Psychopharmacology: Covers how psychoactive drugs work, including effects, uses, risks, dosing, and interactions across the lifespan.

NU 642 – Psychopathology: Examines the neuroscience and pathophysiology of mental health disorders across the lifespan.

NU 539 – Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing I: Introduces psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment using DSM-5, with both medication and non-medication approaches and at least 65 clinical hours.

NU 643 – Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing II: Builds diagnostic and assessment skills and applies evidence-based psychiatric treatment using DSM-5.

NU 644 – Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing II Clinical: Provides 260 clinical hours to apply advanced psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment skills.

NU 645 – Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing III: Focuses on advanced PMHNP practice, including system issues, ethics, legal concerns, family dynamics, and social determinants of health.

NU 646 – Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing III Clinical: Offers 260 clinical hours to strengthen advanced practice skills in psychiatric care.

NU 647 – Role Synthesis and Faith Integration: Prepares students for PMHNP certification by reviewing core competencies and integrating holistic and faith-based care.

Clinical Requirements

Students complete 585 supervised clinical hours across three semesters with a 65:1 clinical hour to credit hour ratio. Clinical experiences include 65 hours in the first semester, followed by 260 hours each in spring and summer semesters. All clinical rotations occur at approved sites partnered with the University of Mobile, allowing students to complete requirements in their local communities.


Tuition

Tuition is $715 per credit hour, totaling $17,160 for the 24-credit program. Additional fees include comprehensive fees of $545 per semester for fall and spring, and nursing clinical course fees of $500 for courses NU 539, 644, and 646.

Accreditation & Outcomes

The University of Mobile’s nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), which includes the baccalaureate, master’s, doctoral, and post-graduate APRN certificate programs.
