Curriculum

NURS-505 Advanced Pathophysiology
An intensive study of normal physiology and common disease mechanisms, this course links cellular and system-level pathology to clinical signs and symptoms. Students learn etiologies of health deviations and the rationale behind evidence-based management.
NURS-503 Theory & Research in Adv Nursing Prac
Covers the theoretical foundations and research methods that anchor advanced and evidence-based nursing practice. Learners identify a practice problem, craft a theory-informed research question, and critically synthesize evidence for diverse populations.
NURS-540 Pharmacology/Prescriptive Prac
Focuses on pharmacologic principles for primary care, connecting disease pathophysiology to prevention, treatment, and stabilization with medications. Legal and regulatory aspects of prescriptive authority are emphasized throughout.
NURS-530 Adv. Health Assessment
Builds graduate-level history taking, comprehensive and focused physical examination, and diagnostic reasoning across the lifespan. Students interpret clinical data to generate differentials and safe, patient-centered care plans.
NURS-661 Primary Care I: Prevention and Education
Introduces prevention-focused primary care with emphasis on screening, risk reduction, immunizations, and patient education across age groups. Learners apply guidelines to design health-promotion plans and counsel individuals and families.
NURS-541 Psychopharmacology
Examines how psychotropic agents influence mood, behavior, and cognition by integrating neurobiology with drug mechanisms, indications, and monitoring for mental health disorders across the lifespan.
NURS-663
Typically advances application of PMHNP concepts through integrated assessment, diagnosis, and management using evidence-based psychotherapy and medication plans under faculty/preceptor guidance.
NURS-694
A higher-level clinical immersion that strengthens autonomous decision-making, interprofessional collaboration, and outcome evaluation across diverse psychiatric settings and populations.
NURS-695
Capstone clinical or synthesis experience focused on full-scope practice readiness, quality/safety metrics, and demonstration of competency in comprehensive psychiatric care.
NURS-701 Leadership & Qual Imprvmt Healthcare Sys
Applies leadership, systems thinking, and quality improvement to drive safety and outcomes. Topics include project and change management, strategic and financial planning, communication, and benchmarking; students culminate with a business plan.

Supports development and/or implementation of a scholarly or practice improvement project, emphasizing data analysis, dissemination planning, and measurable impact on patient or system outcomes.
NURS-702 Advocacy & Action for Health Care Policy
Explores how political, economic, environmental, and social determinants shape health, with a human rights and social justice lens. Students analyze disparities, evaluate national/global initiatives, and develop actionable policy and advocacy strategies for doctoral-prepared nursing leadership.
Clinicals
Clinical requirements include 750 supervised clinical hours completed in students’ local areas with dedicated placement assistance and hands-on campus visits for practical skill development.
MSN Program Requirements:
- BSN from accredited program approved by Board of Nursing
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA requirement
- Current unencumbered RN license
- One professional letter of recommendation
- Current professional resume and personal statement
- Undergraduate courses in nursing research, statistics, and health assessment
Post-Master’s Certificate in PMHNP

Curriculum
The 21-credit certificate targets nurses with existing master’s degrees:
- Prerequisites Assessment:
- Gap analysis conducted to determine additional coursework needs
- Advanced pathophysiology, pharmacology, and health assessment required
- Pharmacology course must be within 5 years of program completion

Clinicals

- Master’s degree in nursing from nationally accredited program
- Minimum 3.0 GPA and current RN licensure in New Jersey or accepted state
- No current or pending disciplinary action against nursing license

- Criminal background check and practicum site compliance requirements
