The pricing structure is the headline. Most public universities charge online out-of-state students a premium; UMass Amherst charges everyone $825 per credit. For an out-of-state NP, a ~$24,000 certificate from a Carnegie R1 flagship undercuts nearly every private option in New England — URI charges more than double per credit, and Regis College and MCPHS run $1,275. The certificate’s openness to master’s-prepared RNs who aren’t yet NPs is a second genuine differentiator, as is the unlimited telehealth practicum allowance.

The master’s degree program in nursing and the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Elaine Marieb College of Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), as verified from the school’s accreditation page; CCNE reaccredited the online DNP program through 2035 in October 2025.
The university is institutionally accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). The CCNE statement names the degree programs rather than the certificate specifically, but the college states its certificate programs meet national certification requirements and works directly with ANCC during admissions to align each student’s plan of study.
